We embrace diversity even in our student selection
Mbumba believes that research and science are the most effective weapons for transforming Africa into a more progressive place. As part of the Mastercard Foundation's youth think tank initiative, she researched and contributed to the publication of a study in June 2021 on “what makes young women successful in STEM careers” by exploring barriers young women face in STEM fields. Through research, the program strives to inform global policy makers on challenges that affect young people in Africa.
Mbumba has also represented Malawi by virtually coordinating the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Youth (2021) under the banner of YOUNGO - The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's Official Youth Constituency (UNFCCC). She entered the non-profit development sector after completing her Bachelor of Science degree in aquaculture and fisheries from the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Malawi) in 2019. She is making a significant contribution in developing the Aquaculture Value Chains in Malawi.
Mbumba is inspired to pursue training for this biodiversity and informatics program because it will provide her with new skills to create, plan, transform data and information into knowledge that people can use on a daily basis. She also believes this programe will hone her analytical, research, strategic planning skills.
